INTERNING WITH SUTRA

SUTRA believes in investing in young professionals who desire to work with communities.

SUTRA is situated in its own campus and runs a community mess.

SUTRA does not accept students who believe in religious fundamentalism

SUTRA accepts interns from Schools of Social Work, Schools of Management and other Universities engaged in developing young professionals.

As a matter of policy, SUTRA does not decide on the assignment for Interns.  Interns are given broad understanding of the actions that SUTRA is engaged in and then the Interns are free to choose the assignment.

SUTRA does not charge students for the professional inputs it makes, but however, it charges for accommodation and food. The charges are:

1.    For a room on sharing basis (without any attachments) Rs 50/- per night/per student
2.    For a room on sharing basis with attached bathroom and toilet, Rs 250/- per night/per student (check availbility).
3.    For food (includes tea, breakfast, lunch and dinner along with evening tea)  Rs 100/- per day per person.*
4.    Only vegetarian simple food is served.
5.    Students studying on Bank Loan and students belonging religious minority sections (especially Muslims) may apply for concession on these charges and may avail upto 25% concession (provided documentary evidence of the same is attached with application for Internship)
6.    Students with medical history and in need of special food, should inform in advance and SUTRA Community Kitchen in-charge shall inform whether SUTRA is in position to oblige or not.

Other Rules/Regulations:

A.    Students are expected to have humility towards community members and field staff of SUTRA.
B.    Students are expected to follow the daily routine at SUTRA and weekly Shramdaan (community work) to keep the campus clean.
C.    Students are expected to complete their assignment within given time frame
D.    If the assignment is given by SUTRA, all the local travel expenses are borne by SUTRA. If Students choose their own assignment, travel expenses shall be borne by students.
E.     SUTRA reserves right to terminate internship without giving any reason.

Leave During Internship:

Students are expected to work 6 days a week, but if required they shall be asked to work on Sundays/Public Holidays and in lieu of these they may claim compensatory leave.

If students decide to go out of the campus for night stays, they shall give in writing the application and only after approval by the Supervisor; night stays outside the campus can be availed. SUTRA shall not be responsible for the wellbeing of the students when they go out for night stays.

Other facilities at SUTRA :
1. SUTRA shall provide limited wi-fi connectivity to the laptops of students and also printing and photocopying is available on payment.
2. Students may watch TV programs through Dish connectivity.
3. A number of films based on developmental issues are available at SUTRA and students are encouraged to watch the same.
4. For foreign and non-Hindi speaking students, translators for field work may be arranged if advance notice is given. Charges for translators are usually Rs 250/- per day.

SUTRA reserves right to make amendment to any or all rules/regulations mentioned above, without giving any notice.

Special Note: Students, who are incapable of loving pets such as dogs and cats, are not welcome at SUTRA.

* Kindly check with the staff since food inflation affects the meal rates!
